UAE announced 2 months grace period for residence violators and adjust status: (ICP says new rule will come into effect from September 1)

The UAE government has announced a grace period for residency violators to adjust their status without facing penalties. The grace period will allow residents who have overstayed their visas or violated residency laws to rectify their situation without facing fines or deportation.

The move is aimed at helping individuals who may have unintentionally violated residency laws due to unforeseen circumstances such as job loss or family issues. It also aims to encourage residents to come forward and regularize their status, rather than living in fear of being caught by authorities.

During the grace period, violators will have the opportunity to update their residency status by either renewing their visas, transferring sponsorships, or leaving the country voluntarily. It is important for violators to take advantage of this opportunity and follow the necessary procedures to avoid legal consequences in the future.

The exact duration of the grace period and the specific procedures for adjusting residency status will be on September 1, 2024. It is recommended for residency violators to stay updated on the latest developments and to seek guidance from legal experts or relevant government entities to ensure a smooth transition to compliant residency status.

A two-month grace period, starting from September 1, 2024, has been granted to residency law violators, allowing them to adjust their status or leave the country without incurring fines.

The grace period is part of the UAE's efforts to support residents who may have inadvertently violated residency laws due to changes in their circumstances or for other reasons. During this time, violators can either renew their residency permits, transfer sponsorship, or leave the country without facing fines or penalties.

Officials have urged violators to take advantage of this opportunity to rectify their status and avoid legal consequences. The grace period aims to provide individuals with the necessary time and flexibility to resolve any issues related to their residency in an orderly manner.

Residents who are unsure of their legal status or require assistance in resolving their residency issues can seek guidance from the relevant authorities or legal advisors. It is important for individuals to comply with immigration laws and regulations to avoid any disruptions to their stay in the UAE.

The new grace period reflects the UAE's commitment to supporting residents and ensuring their well-being while also maintaining the integrity of the country's immigration system.

Residence visa rules

The validity of residence visas in the UAE may vary based on type and sponsor. A sponsored visa could be valid for 1, 2 or 3 years, whereas a self-sponsored one can be used for up to 5 or 10 years.

Those who will not leave the country or renew their visas prior to expiry will have to pay fines.

In 2023, these penalties have been standardized. Residents, tourists visa and visit visa holders who overstays now pay Dh50 a day instead of Dh100.

Expats, who wish to renew their visa, are given grace periods of up to six months after their residence visa is cancelled or expired.
