Dubai: People who have played important roles in environmental conservation and sustainability can now submit applications for the UAE’s 10-year Blue Residency visa. Initially revealed in May 2024, the extended visa intends to draw specialists in sustainability and climate change, enabling them to contribute to the UAE’s environmental, economic, and social progress. Applications can now be submitted through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) using its official online visa services platform - smartservices.icp.gov.ae.
What does the Blue Visa refer to?
The Blue Visa is a 10-year residency permit launched by the UAE government to acknowledge individuals who have made substantial contributions to environmental protection and sustainability, both domestically and internationally. The Blue Residency is granted to prominent champions of environmental initiatives, such as representatives from international organizations and corporations, members of associations and NGOs, awardees of notable global environmental honors, along with esteemed activists and scholars in environmental disciplines.
Who qualifies?
As stated by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the Blue Residency visa targets outstanding individuals in environmental sectors, such as scientists, researchers, investors, entrepreneurs, inventors, and experts in sustainability, energy, and climate change.
Qualified applicants consist of:
• Esteemed representatives of global organizations dedicated to the environment, energy, sustainability, and climate change.
• Prominent individuals from regional, national, and international organizations and institutions associated with environmental activities.

Requirements:
The criteria for applying for the Blue Residency visa differ based on the applicant's classification and qualifications, as outlined by the ICP. If you are located outside the UAE and have received a nomination for the Blue Visa, you must apply for a six-month multiple-entry visa to assist in completing the necessary procedures for acquiring Blue Residency.
